Tour of Illinois Institute of Technology microgrid development and 8-megawatt cogeneration facility

The Illinois Tech campus is located on the near south side of Chicago. Campus utility systems for the 120-acre site include electric and steam distribution, 8 MW of electric generation, smart microgrid switching and management, and two electric substations. Campus enhancements include PV installations, energy storage, wind demonstration, smart lighting, and the microgrid research and analysis Galvin Center. The tour will include an overview of the campus microgrid, physical renewable energy, and energy storage improvements. The tour will conclude with an on-site visit to the Cogeneration/Heating plant.
Tour of S&C Electric Smart Grid and Microgrids Demonstration Center

Forum attendees are invited to participate in a free tour of the Smart Grid Solutions Demonstration Center at S&C Electric Company's global headquarters in Chicago. The demonstration center will allow you to see, in real time, how smart grid technologies respond to grid issues and optimize power delivery systems. The demonstration center includes interactive exhibits that display S&C's solutions such as microgrids, self-healing technology, energy storage integration solutions and communications systems.
Attendees also have the opportunity to interact with S&C's new, three-dimensional Microgrid Demo table to bring the complexities of these systems down to an easily understandable level. This learning tool helps attendees understand how microgrids deliver adaptive solutions to challenges on both sides of the meter through a variety of scenarios.

9:30 am -- Gather at conference location (205 W. Wacker Drive, Chicago)
9:45 am -- Bus leaves for IIT (3430 South Federal Street, Chicago)
10:00 am -- Bus arrives at IIT (3430 South Federal Street)
10:00 - 11:30 am -- Tour of IIT microgrid lab & facilities
11:30 am -- Bus heads back to 205 W. Wacker to drop off / pick up tour attendees
12:00 noon -- Bus leaves 205 W. Wacker and heads to S&C
12:30 - 1:30 pm -- Lunch at S&C
1:30 - 3:00 pm -- Tour of S&C demo center
